Here's how it works. Each cell has eight neighbors(one in each direction including diagonals). If a cell has two neighbors, then it stays as it is. If a cell has three neighbors, it comes to life if it is not already alive. If it has more than three neighbors, it dies of overcrowding; if it has less than two neighbors, it dies of loneliness. Try different patterns-you can get some neat results!
