Ethiopia

I travelled to Ethiopia during the Summer of 1973. I spent three months
there, dividing my time among three regions:
The Danakil depression, which is one of the hottest areas on earth.
I spent one month in this desert, with three Danakils, hiking from Makalle
in Tigre to the Ertale volcanoes, to the Dallol salt lake.
The mountains of Tigre. These mountains contain fabulous old
Coptic churches carved in the rocks. Some are located at the top of
big cliffs.
The Semien mountains near Ras Dashan, the highest point in Ethiopia.
This trip has been the most fascinating journey I ever did.
Danakil depression.

Tigrean mountains.

Mountains of Semien.
