Ethiopia

I travelled to Ethiopia during the Summer of 1973. I spent three months there, dividing my time among three regions:
  • The Danakil depression, which is one of the hottest areas on earth. I spent one month in this desert, with three Danakils, hiking from Makalle in Tigre to the Ertale volcanoes, to the Dallol salt lake.
  • The mountains of Tigre. These mountains contain fabulous old Coptic churches carved in the rocks. Some are located at the top of big cliffs.
  • The Semien mountains near Ras Dashan, the highest point in Ethiopia.
This trip has been the most fascinating journey I ever did.
