In September 2012, I traveled with my wife to Uzbekistan. Most of the trip was devoted to visiting Samarkand, Shakhrisabz, Bukhara, and Khiva. However, at the end of the trip we did a one-day excursion to the Gulkam Canyon with my two friends Boris Karpov and Vyacheslav (Slava) Yuryev, both from Tashkent. Hiking this canyon is a ″classic″ trip in the Tashkent area. It is located in the Chimgan Mountains, some 90km NE of Tashkent. The main skiing complex in Uzbekistan, Chimgan, is located in the Chimgan Mountains.
