The recent exponential growth in these systems throughout the world is directly attributable to new technologies of the 1970's, which are mature today. Furthermore, most people are familiar with a number of mobile communication systems used in everyday life (garage door openers, remote controllers for home equipment, pagers, etc.). Evidently, many new research questions arise because of mobility. For most of them, approaches based on the continuous case are not satisfactory, and discrete models and algorithms are required in order to deal with real applications. The workshop DIAL M for Mobility is devoted to discrete algorithms and discrete modelling in the context of mobile computing and communications. It is intented to be a lively meeting, covering all algorithmic and discrete aspects of this field going from operations research to radio problems. It aims, in particular, at fostering the cooperation among practitioners and theoreticians of the field. DIAL M for Mobility co-locates with MobiCom'97 and will be composed of contributed and invited talks. TOPICS Papers are solicited in all research and applied areas related to mobile computing and communications where discrete algorithms and methods are used, including, but not limited to: - cryptography and security - distributed algorithms - error correcting codes - frequency allocation - handover - location tracking - modelling - optimisation - routing - scheduling - site allocation - synchronization - telecoms - wireless networks PUBLICATION All contributions will be refereed by the Program Committee. Accepted papers will be available at the workshop. Papers of particular merit will be selected for a special issue of the journal Mobile Networks and Applications, from ACM Press and Baltzer Publishers. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES Contributions should be submitted by e-mailing a postscript file describing the work in no more than 6 pages to DialM@litp.ibp.fr Submissions should arrive on or before July 4, 1997 and should be accompanied by a separate ascii-only e-mail with the author's full name, address, fax number and a 100-word abstract and keywords. It is expected that accepted papers will be presented at the workshop. VENUE Budapest is the capital of Hungary, a small state in the East Central Europe, more than 1000 years old. Budapest is known for many historical remains, monuments and churches but also for tasty Hungarian food based on centuries old traditions. Its famous Tokaji wine has been known for centuries as "The king of wines, the wine of kings".
