The European Symposium on Algorithms covers research in the use, design, and analysis of algorithms as it is carried out in computer science, discrete applied mathematics and mathematical programming, with emphasis on questions of efficiency. Papers are solicited describing original results in all fields of algorithms research, such as Approximation Algorithms; Combinatorial Optimization; Computational Biology; Computational Geometry; Evolutionary Algorithms; Graph and Network Algorithms; Neural Computing; Number Theory and Computer Algebra; On-line Algorithms; Parallel and Distributed Computing; Pattern Matching and Data Compression; Symbolic Computation, and so on. Authors are invited to submit 13 copies of an extended abstract or full draft paper of at most 10 pages before March 3, 1997 to Rainer E. Burkard - ESA '97 TU Graz, Dept. Mathematics Steyrergasse 30 A-8010 Graz, Austria Alternatively, authors may submit their manuscripts electronically. Electronic submission is strongly preferred (but make sure that you send us a standard Postscript file). Further information is available at the WWW Home Page of the conference. Submissions should also include the fax number and e-mail address of the sender. Notification of acceptance follows by May 11, 1997 via e-mail. Accepted papers will be published in the proceedings of the Symposium, which will appear in the series Lecture Notes in Computer Science of Springer-Verlag. Camera-ready copy is due before June 6, 1997. All participants receive a copy of the proceedings as part of their registration. The Symposium will be held in the university facilities of the Graz University of Technology. For Eastern-European participants and for full-time students, there will be a reduced conference fee. Moreover, there will be travelling support for Eastern-European participants. All further questions should be mailed to esa97@opt.math.tu-graz.ac.at or to gwoegi@opt.math.tu-graz.ac.at.
