Chile (February-March 2016): Puerto Natales and Senoret Channel

The town of Puerto Natales is located 250km northwest from Punta Arenas on the shore of the Senoret Channel at the opening of the Ultima Esperanza Sound. It was officially founded in 1911. However, the area was originally inhabited by Kowesquar and Aoniken people. It is the primary transit point to/from Torres del Paine National Park located 100km further north.
Iglesia Maria Auxiliadora, inaugurated in 1930. Its construction was funded by the Sociedad Explotadora Tierra de Fuego, itself founded in 1893.

Statue of the Mylodon, a 1 ton, 2-to-2.5 m extinct herbivore that populated Patagonia at the end of the Peistocene. Remains of the mylodon were found in 1896 in a cave 24km north of Puerto Natales.
