This site shows photos I took during a three-week trip to northern and central-western Honshu in October 2024. The trip was quite diverse and not focused on a few specific objectives. It was nevertheless strongly tilted toward historical sites dating from the Edo period (1603-1868) and ancient mountain and rural religious sites. To facilitate transportation by train and public bus, I structured the visits into five geographic clusters, each with a single base: Kakunodate, Tsuruoka, Sendai, Kanazawa, and Takayama (see map above).
