New Directions in the Foundations of Physics

 
 

An annual conference on conceptual foundations of physics. Sponsored by the University of Maryland, College Park (College of Arts and Humanities, Committee for Philosophy and the Sciences, Institute for Physical Science and Technology), Georgetown University (Graduate School, Georgetown College, Philosophy Department), and Johns Hopkins University Philosophy Department, with the support of the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Berlin, and coordinated through the Foundations of Physics Group (University of Maryland at College Park, Johns Hopkins University, Georgetown University).

The 2012 conference will be held at the Mathematical Association of America Carriage House, Washington, DC, May 11 - 13.

The Maryland Mechanisms Research Group

 
 

The Maryland Mechanisms Research Group consists of faculty, research associates, postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students at UMCP interested in biological mechanisms. The group reads preprints of papers and book manuscripts of the group and journal articles on the topic of the new mechanistic philosophy of science. The DC/Maryland History and Philosophy of Biology Discussion Group meets monthly in Washington, DC, for dinner and small group discussion of preprints and published papers in hpb. Attendees include visitors to Washington and local faculty, graduate students, and professionals from the University of Maryland (College Park and Baltimore County), George Washington University, the Smithsonian Institution, the National Science Foundation, and the National Academy of Sciences, among others.
