The Zanskar Courtyard is a beautiful and comfortable homestay built by Sonam Dawa in 2020-2022. It is located in the village of Shagar Yokma, some 15km northwest of Padum in the valley of the Stod River. It is an ideal base for many day hikes and longer treks, as well as for visiting Buddhist gompas, in particular the Sani gompa (with its pre-Tibetan Buddhist statues) and the rarely visited, but spectacular Zongkhul gompa. Next to the homestay, a small cheese factory, also created by Sonam Dawa, produces a very tasty cheese made with the milk of dzomo, a female hybrid of yak and cattle raised above 3600m.

Sonam Dawa is the owner and manager of Adventure Travel Mark . He organized the logistics of four of my trips to Ladakh/Zanskar in 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2022.

He can be contacted by email at sdawa11@gmail.com and by phone and WhatsApp at +91 94191 78963.
